Trip to the Farm

We took a few days during spring break to go visit Mimi and the Dutton family on the farm.  The kids enjoyed farm life and had many new experiences. 

As we were pulling onto the gravel road that lead to the farm I pointed the chicken houses and this is the conversation I had with Liv:

Me: Those long buildings are chicken houses that they raise chicken houses in.

Liv: Do the chickens lay eggs?

Me: No, they raise them for the chicken nuggets you eat. 

Liv: oh great, are we going to get to eat chicken nuggets on the farm?

Then I pointed out the cows. 

Liv: Do they get milk from the cows?

Me: No, they use the cows to make hamburgers. 

Liv: Cows can't make hamburgers, they have hooves! 

They LOVED all of the dogs on the farm. There are probably 10 dogs running around and they loved learning all of their names.  At first Liv got stressed out and said, "he's running away" and I had to explain to her that farm dogs get to roam around as they please.  Ha!  She's only seen dogs on leashes. 

The dirt pile.  Oh my, the dirt pile.  Who would have thought that they would have this much fun in a pile of dirt?  They played in the dirt for hours and even built a road for the seed cars to drive on.  Needless to say they were both filthy afterwards but it was totally worth it!  I keep joking that I would have bought them a dirt pile for Christmas if I would have known they'd love it that much!  

Gray found a sweet gum ball on the ground.  He was scared to death of it! He said "That is a por-key-pine"  and he wouldn't go near it! 

We went for a stroll on the dirt road and saw the tractors and chicken houses.   They were building new chicken houses so there was a HUGE tractor and we got to see it in action.  Gray loves tractors almost as much as he loves trains so this was right up his alley.

Mimi gave them some googles.  Gray loved his so much he went so sleep with them.  

We visited the Mike Huckabee Wildlife Preserve in Pine Bluff.  The kids got to see lots of cool animals that are native to Arkansas.  They got to see a live fish feeding as well as

bald eages, alligators, turtles and lots of other animals up close. It was a good time!

 My Uncle Gary was going for a "$6 country haircut" and I mentioned Gray needed one too so he let him come along with him.  He had fun getting it cut by Harold B, the 80 year old barber in the country.   

What can I say?  Farm life is a good life.
